What is veneer?

In dentistry, a veneer may be a skinny layer of restorative material placed over a tooth surface, either to boost the aesthetics of a tooth, or to shield a broken tooth surface. There are 2 main styles of material used to fabricate a veneer, composite and dental porcelain. A composite veneer is also directly placed (built-up within the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician during a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth, usually employing a resin cement like Panavia. In distinction, a porcelain veneer could solely be indirectly fabricated.
